Toshiba HD-DVD Player for $198!
Walmart stores have started selling the Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player for a record breaking price of $198. If you have been considering the purchase of an HD-DVD player, this is a very good price for an entry level high-def player
"We reduced our HD DVD Toshiba player, the generation-two, to $198 earlier in the week," Wal-Mart spokeswoman Melissa O´Brien confirmed to Fortune Magazine. "It´s happening now, and that´s really all I can tell you. We don´t give any information on what we´re planning to do for the holidays. We know HD DVD and Blu-ray are going to be popular items this holiday season for some of our customers. … They will be more popular this year than they were in previous years."
O´Brien said rumors that each Wal-Mart store would stock only 18 units of the Toshiba player were false. "There are no limited quantities for stores or purchases."
This means that HD DVD will reach many people at a very attractive price. Getting below the $200 mark has been viewed as a critical goal in getting HD to the general population by many analysts.
It is also worth mentioning that it is a quality player that gets below $200. This also means that the upcoming Venturer-produced player may be priced even lower.
On the Blu-ray side of the equation, the least expensive Blu-ray Disc player currently available is the Sony BDP-S300, which sells for about $499. Sony will also be releasing a new Blu-ray Player-equipped Sony Playstation 3 for $399 in November
